This year, we held our fifth Music Summer School from Monday 22nd to Friday 26th July at Berger Primary School (Anderson Road, London E9 6HB).
The Summer School was attended by 49 students aged 8 to 13 from Hackney and nearby schools. The students took part in a range of group activities, allowing them to learn new music skills and develop existing ones, as well as socialise, play and have lots of fun. Activities included orchestra, instrumental and vocal group sessions, choir, music appreciation classes as well as playground and game activities. As with all our summer schools, musical activities were led by professional musicians and educators and all playground/game activities led by a youth worker and PE teacher.
On Friday 26th July we held a public concert where students showcased all that they had learnt throughout the week. The concert featured 3 compositions by Leopold Mozart (father of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart) whose 300-year anniversary falls in 2019.
A big thank you to the wonderful students who as well as enjoying a fun week of music-making, worked hard throughout the project to prepare for Friday’s inspiring concert.
A special thank you to all the staff who took part, sharing their skills and experience and putting so much energy into the project.
